Beethoven / Piano Concerto No. 5, Op.73 “Emperor”
Emanuel Ax, piano

Beethoven / Symphony No. 7

World-renowned pianist Emanuel Ax launches the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra’s centennial with Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto. This performance is the finale of Mr. Ax’s week-long SDSO residency including concerts at local schools, hospitals, and community centers.

We looked forward to bringing you Beethoven’s monumental “Ode to Joy” as a celebratory conclusion to the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra’s 2019-20 season. This concert, also featuring acclaimed piano soloist Emanuel Ax, was rescheduled for May 1 of 2021 in the hope that the impact of the global pandemic would abate enough to safely gather the number of performers required. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to safely perform Beethoven’s Ninth
Symphony this spring.

Sharing great music brings a community together, which is why the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra has continued to perform this season and will perform on May 1. As planned, the May 1 concert will feature acclaimed piano soloist Emanuel Ax and music of Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven’s brilliant Seventh Symphony will replace the Ninth.

*Programming, artists, dates, and prices are subject to change.

The evening performance will be available as a video livestream with the support of South Dakota Public Broadcasting. Stream the performance below, visit us on our Facebook page, or via
