Washington Pavilion

The Home of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra

As home to the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, the 1,835 seat Great Hall is a wonderful asset for the entire community. This beautiful facility is just one of the cultural opportunities available at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Sciences. The Pavilion also features the Visual Arts Center, the Kirby Science Discovery Center and the Wells Fargo Cinedome Theater.

Formerly the Civic Fine Arts Center, the Visual Arts Center brings the power of visual arts to people of all ages through exhibits, educational forums and its permanent art collection. A set of seven galleries features temporary exhibits, including one gallery designed just for children. The permanent collection is highlighted by works of regional artists such as Oscar Howe, Robert Alden and Signe Stuart, and masters from abroad, Rembrandt and Renoir.

More than 50 interactive stations in the Kirby Science Discovery Center will bring your imagination to life. What’s it like to fly a space shuttle? To touch a tornado? Dig up a dinosaur? Launch a hot-air balloon? Forecast the weather? Or stand next to Stan, a 65-million year-old Tyrannosaurus Rex? You’ll be amazed at the wonders of science!

The Wells Fargo CineDome Theater will take you from the darkest depths of the sea to the outer reaches of space, on a massive four-story domed screen that surrounds you with colossal sights and sounds. Now you can go on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure without ever leaving your seat! Films are shown hourly during the day with selected evening showings as well.

The South Dakota Symphony is proud to be a part of the unique cultural experiences brought to you by the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science. We encourage you to visit often, and take advantage of all there is to see and do. There truly is something for us all.
