Amy Carlisle

Amy Carlisle has been a member of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra’s second violin section since 2001. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Carlisle began playing violin at the age of seven. She graduated Cum Laude from Augustana College in 2004 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in both music and sociology. While at Augustana, Amy studied violin with Magdalena Modzelewska and Doosook Kim. Carlisle currently works in Curriculum Services (Staff Development/Federal Programs) for the Sioux Falls School District at the Instructional Planning Center, a position that she loves. Carlisle is an active member of the South Dakota Symphony Chamber Orchestra, as well. She has participated in the Lakota Music Project and Christmas at the Cathedral for many years, and she’s had the opportunity to be a part of several recordings with the symphony. In addition, Carlisle has served as the touring manager and music librarian on a number of chamber orchestra tours. She was an elected member of the South Dakota Symphony’s Player’s Board in 2005. Carlisle met her husband, Gideon Carlisle (viola), while on a South Dakota Symphony Chamber Orchestra tour in 2006. The two have been together for nearly seven years and were married in 2011. Carlisle cherishes every opportunity she’s given to perform in the symphony with Gid. They reside in Sioux Falls with their lovely dog, Robin.
