Bach’s B minor Mass Lenten Lecture Series 1

Free Event

Sunday, March 19, 2017 – 6:00 PM

First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls

Please join SDSO Music Director Delta David Gier for lectures on Bach’s monumental “B minor Mass” during Lent.

The “B minor Mass” represents the only time Bach, a Lutheran, set the full text of the Latin mass. Why did he do so–and at the very end of his career, at the height of his powers, with no commission nor occasion for performance? Knowing that the vast majority of Bach’s works were intended for corporate worship, how should we experience this piece today?

The Lenten Lecture Series will take place over four Sunday evenings and will feature several guest speakers. The March 19 lecture will discuss the “Kyrie” and “Gloria” with Father Charles Cimpl, Pastor at Holy Spirit Church and the Vicar General of the Diocese of Sioux Falls.
