Education & Touring

EDUCATION
The South Dakota Symphony and the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra League combine to provide many different educational experiences for people of all ages. Members of the orchestra reach out to people throughout the state and region with activities during the year. Visit the various pages listed below the Education and Touring headline to find out more.

TOURING
Each season, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra brings a rare opportunity to our state through Touring Ensembles that travel to various communities in the region. These ensembles consist of the orchestra’s nine core members, also known as the Dakota String Quartet and the Dakota Wind Quintet.

The South Dakota Symphony's Chamber Orchestra has also begun to tour throughout the state and region. The Chamber Orchestra consists of 18-25 musicians.

The primary focus of our Touring Ensembles is to help students master their instruments and broaden their appreciation for classical music. These professional musicians are excited to share their knowledge with you.

“There’s an emotional connection that you experience when you are sitting in the audience. You can’t get that same feeling when you listen to a CD or the radio. It’s this great sense of anticipation – from the moment you find your seat until the musicians start warming up – that you just can’t explain .”
