Pied Piper

The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra League's Pied Piper Program is a way to introduce preschool-age children to music and musical instruments. It is traditionally held the beginning of May. The Dakota String Quartet and the Dakota Wind Quintet perform at these annual concerts.

The Q & Q is often joined by the Augustana Percussion Ensemble and Phil Baker, a local yet well-known composer and performer of children's music. The performances, which last 30-35 minutes, are interactive and therefore keep the young students attention. The performers play their instruments and then talk to the students about the sounds their particular instrument makes. Coloring books are also presented to each of the students.
