Marilyn Schempp

Marilyn Schempp received her Bachelor’s degree in both vocal and instrumental music from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD and a Master’s of Music in Organ Performance with additional coursework in piano and harpsichord from the University of South Dakota.  While maintaining a private piano studio in her home, Schempp teaches organ and piano at Augustana College and serves as the chapel organist.  At Our Savior’s Lutheran she is the Assistant Music Director and Principal Organist.  Schempp is an active member of the American Guild of Organists where she has served as Dean of the South Dakota chapter, Director of the Organ Scholarship Academy and as director for six summer Pipe Organ Encounter Camps.  This past summer she was elected to serve on the National Council of the American Guild of Organists as Region VI Councillor.   Schempp is active in the Music Teacher’s National Association having served as president of the local chapter and for the last six years she has been the Competition Chair for the state of SD.  For two years she served as the regional secretary/treasurer for the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians.  As a performer, Schempp has played solo organ recitals, played oboe with the Sioux Falls Municipal Band, accompanies high school and college students in competitions, juries and recitals, and has played oboe, piano, harpsichord, and organ with the South Dakota Symphony.  She has also accompanied the South Dakota Honor’s Choir and All-State Chorus.  As an adjudicator, Schempp has judged for area Piano Guild Auditions, the National Federation of Piano, MTNA, and local festivals.  She and her husband, Mark, have two grown children and three grandchildren.
