Richard Bogenrief is a retired member of The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own). He was stationed at Ft Myer, Virginia adjacent Arlington National Cemetery for 21 years. In the Washington, DC area he was also a member of several community orchestras and spent 11 years on the staff of the Concert Hall of the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. After his retirement from the military, he returned to Northwest Iowa to manage a family farm. He has served as a member of the South Dakota Symphony, the Sioux City Symphony and the Northwest Iowa Symphony for most of 25 years.
In addition he has been a member of the music studio faculty at the University of South Dakota, Augustana College, Dordt College and Northwestern College during those same 25 years. He attended the University of Iowa (BA / Foreign Language), the University of South Dakota (MM) and studied Business Management at The George Washington University. He has more than 35 years of experience in Performing Arts Management as a military group leader (daily assignments for the 65 member United States Army Ceremonial Band), as a business owner and as a symphony operations manager. Trumpet performance remains a top priority in his life. His only regret as a member of the SDSO is that brass ensembles are not sent into the Sioux Falls and area schools as are the string ensembles and the woodwind ensembles.
