The Mabel Koerner Needlepoint Collection
Mabel Koerner was an active member of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra League for many years. She served on the SDSOL board and was president in 1989-90. Mabel and her husband, Hugh, also enjoyed the symphony and gave an endowment to the SDSO.
Mabel was a great needlepoint teacher and coach. She loved to needlepoint and helped others share that enjoyment. She was very encouraging to her students in class and out. She made many friends through needlepointing and enjoyed stitching times with friends both in home and at Barbara’s Needlepoint.
Mabel began stitching when she got up in the morning before beginning the rest of her day. After she was done with her activities, she would go back to stitching and in the evenings would stitch while watching sports or other things on TV.
Mabel loved needlepoint canvasses and had many. The SDSOL has been given a number of her canvasses to use for a fundraiser. These canvasses vary in size and design.
We want to thank Lorraine Cleven, Mabel’s close friend, for donating them to the SDSOL and Barbara Reilly of Barbara’s Needlepoint in appraising the canvasses and donating the bags for each canvas.
The Mabel Koerner Needlepoint Collection is a great way to enjoy a hobby and support the SDSOL. If you don’t needlepoint but would like to begin, this is a good way to start and you would be helping the SDSOL.
The canvasses will be available at all SDSOL luncheons or you can contact Ruthi Menken at 339-2957 to purchase any of these canvasses.
