2008-2009 South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra


South Dakota Orchestra Youth Orchestra rehearses.

 

Backed by the award-winning South Dakota Symphony, the South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra (SDSYO) is an elite, new music program for grades K-12. Divided into four groups, students will be placed in an orchestra based on their musical ability, enriching their skills and love of music.

  • South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra, conductor Christopher Stanichar. Top level group chosen by audition only.
  • Philharmonia, conductors JungHo Kim and Jeffrey Paul.
  • Sinfonia, conductors Mark Isackson and Harvey Jewell. Strings only.
  • Prelude Strings, conductor Jay Reeve. Beginner group for string players.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Led by respected maestro and composer Christopher Stanichar, SDSYO members will improve their technical skills while performing high level musical pieces with their peers.
  • Learn from South Dakota Symphony music director Delta David Gier and SDSO musicians.
  • Get a chance to work with or watch Symphony guest artists.
  • Perfect your skills for music camp opportunities, scholarships and All-State Orchestra and Band.

CONCERT DATES
October 26, 2008 – 7:00 p.m.
December 13, 2008 – 2:00 p.m.
March 15, 2009 – 7:00 p.m.
May 5, 2009 – 7:00 p.m.

All concerts will be held in the Washington Pavilion Great Hall.

TUITION
Because of the South Dakota Symphony’s fundraising support, tuition rates for the SDSYO are lower than most comparable programs around the nation. Scholarships are available; you may complete your scholarship application form here.

South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra - $250 per student ($200 for students in marching band)
Philharmonia - $200 ($150 for students in marching band)
Sinfonia - $150
Prelude Strings - $50

Since we encourage families to attend South Dakota Symphony concerts together, SDSYO members also receive a free series ticket if one of their parents is a subscriber. Call the Symphony office for details.
