AUDITION INFORMATION

Augustana College, Instrumental Room. Registration table in front of Kresge Auditorium.
Requirements
Solo (of your choice), scale, sight-reading (sight-reading provided at audition). To audition into Youth Orchestra (top orchestra), students must prepare the orchestral excerpt for your instrument posted below.
Audition Information
Auditions are held behind a curtain. Youth Orchestra and Philharmonia are audition-only orchestras. Sinfonia and Prelude Strings do not require an audition. Students may audition for any orchestra they would like and the conductors will place them according to their skill level.
How to Sign Up
Fill out an application online and indicate if you have a preferred time. Audition Results
Students will be notified about their orchestra placement right away, but will not learn of their section or exact chair placement until the first rehearsal. If a student is unsatisfied with his/her placement, he/she will have the opportunity to re-audition during the January auditions.
**Prelude Strings will now be offered in the fall, as well as in the spring. It will remain on Monday nights from 6:30-8 p.m.**
2009 Audition Excerpts
The following excerpts are to be used if you wish to audition into Youth Orchestra. The excerpts are from Johannes Brahms' Academic Festival Overture. It is recommended to listen to a recording of the piece as you prepare for the audition.
