The South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra is an elite music education program comprised of four student orchestras, ranging from a string orchestra for beginning students to a symphonic orchestra for advanced players. These orchestras provide an inspiring group setting that gives young musicians the tools and training to pursue artistic passions, develop musical talents, and build leadership skills. Performances are scheduled at major venues throughout each season, giving students multiple opportunities to showcase their musical talents.
Music as Medicine – The mission of the Music as Medicine program is to use music to create a positive impact on patient healing; to assist the South Dakota regional healthcare systems in creating a constructive environment in which to heal; and to allow the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra to have a consistent presence in the healthcare systems of Sioux Falls and serve as a resource to its community.
Young People’s Concerts - Young People’s Concerts are designed for schools, homeschools, and families looking for an outstanding arts experience that is both educational and engaging. Music Director Delta David Gier guides students through the music using narration, dance, and word pictures. Concerts are held in the Mary W. Sommervold Hall of the Washington Pavilion.
