SHOSTAKOVICH FESTIVAL

Explore the tumultuous life and times of Dmitri Shostakovich through multi-media presentations, live performances, and discussions.  Hear Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8 in the Washington Pavilion and take in a screening of classic Soviet cinema "New Babylon" with Shostakovich's score performed live.

Joseph Horowitz, who expertly set the stage for the SDSO's triumphant performance of Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony in February of 2023, returns to Sioux Falls to guide you through another of Shostakovich's epic war symphonies.

"At the root of the Eighth is the problem of coming to grips, emotionally and philosophically, with violence and suffering on a catastrophic scale." - Shostakovich scholar Hugh Ottoway
