Michael Andersen
Michael Andersen, a native of Miller, South Dakota, is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree, and a Master’s Degree in Tuba Performance from the University of South Dakota. A retired band director, he taught band for 42 years. Michael has played tuba with the South Dakota Symphony since 1993, and is also principal tuba and bass guitarist with the Sioux City Symphony. Michael has been a featured tuba soloist with the South Dakota State University Symphonic Band, the South Dakota State University Jazz Band, the University of South Dakota Concert Band, the Augustana Band, and numerous area city and municipal bands. He is adjunct instructor of tuba at Augustana University, Sioux Falls, SD and maintains a private tuba studio. As a freelance electric bassist, Michael has played with many area jazz and rock bands, including the Jazzed Up! Big Band. He is a member of International Tuba and Euphonium Conference (ITEC), Jazz Education Network (JEN), National Association for Music Education (MAfME), Minnesota Educators Association (MEA), Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) and Phi Beta Mu.
